Where We Stayed: SAii Laguna Phuket

Our stay at SAii Laguna Phuket was nothing short of wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles that made us feel right at home.

The rooms were spacious, spotless, and incredibly kid-friendly. We had plenty of space to spread out and relax. The rooms came with thoughtful touches like child-safe furniture and easily accessible storage. It’s clear the resort knows how to cater to families. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, always going out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. They even made a point of greeting the kids by name, which delighted them . These little touches made the experience feel personal and special.

The pool area was a highlight for us, with a fun waterslide that the kids couldn’t get enough of. Not only was the pool beautifully maintained, but it was also laid out in a way that allowed both kids and adults to have their own spaces. The poolside loungers were a perfect place for parents to relax and keep an eye on the kids. The pool bar offered a good mix of cocktails along with a well stocked bar. You can’t beat a good pina colada in the sun 😊

One of the best parts of our stay was the all-inclusive dining options. The resort offers a wide selection of food choices, and we were impressed by the quality and variety. From local Thai dishes to Western favourites, there was something for everyone. The kids loved the flexibility to pick their own meals. The buffet had everything from fresh fruit and salads to hearty pasta and rice dishes. It’s clear SAii Laguna understands how to keep little ones happy at meal times, making dining a stress-free experience.

We also ventured out for an evening at Beach Pig, a beachside bar and restaurant nearby. It quickly became a family favourite with its relaxed atmosphere. It was a nice change of pace and a fantastic spot to unwind. We sat and enjoying the sunset while the kids played below us on the beach. Live music kept us entertained and the service was very friendly.

As much as we packed into our days, there was one nearby gem that went unexplored—much to Dad’s disappointment! Just a short distance from SAii Laguna is a beautiful golf course. Unfortunately, we couldn’t squeeze in a round. But for families with golf-loving parents, it’s worth considering for a visit.

Day Trips and Experiences in Phuket

While relaxing by the pool was a highlight, we also packed our days with incredible trips and experiences that gave us a deeper appreciation for Thailand’s culture and natural beauty.

James Bond Island Boat Tour

One of our most exciting day trips was the James Bond Island boat tour to Phang Nga Bay. This was an absolute highlight for the kids. They were thrilled to be on a boat, gliding through emerald-green waters surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. The island, famous for its appearance in The Man with the Golden Gun, was a fun photo spot and an adventure-packed experience. The tour also included stops at beautiful caves and lagoons, and we even got the chance to kayak through some of them. It was a perfect mix of exploration and relaxation, with stunning views everywhere we looked.

A Day with the Elephants at the Elephant Wildlife Sanctuary

No trip to Thailand would be complete without an encounter with elephants. We wanted to choose a responsible, ethical way to experience these magnificent animals. We spent a day at the Elephant Wildlife Sanctuary in Phuket, where we not only saw the elephants up close but also got involved in their care.

The experience was incredible; the kids got to feed and help bathe the elephants, learning about their habits and conservation needs. This hands-on experience was as educational as it was fun. Teaching the kids respect and admiration for wildlife. The sanctuary staff were fantastic, guiding us through each activity and ensuring the elephants’ well-being remained the priority.

Exploring Phuket with a Local Guide

To soak up some local culture, we spent a day exploring Phuket with a local guide. We wanted a local to introduce us to the island’s hidden gems. After a short taxi ride, we started with a stroll through Phuket Old Town. We wandered down streets filled with colourful, historic buildings and discovered small shops and art galleries.

From there, we visited the Big Buddha—an impressive statue perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of Phuket. The kids were in awe of its size and the peaceful atmosphere surrounding it. We then headed to a nearby Buddhist temple, which gave us a glimpse into local religious practices and customs. We found this valuable for the children to see and experience.

Our guide then took us to a local restaurant for lunch. It was one of those hidden gems you only find with a local. It truly was authentic Thai food and not a tourist in sight! The kids were proud of trying new dishes, and the experience gave us a taste of the real Thailand. We invited our guide and driver to join us for lunch and hear stories of their families and life on the island.

Our last stop, before returning to the hotel was a cashew nut factory. Here we got to sample all the various flavours on offer. We left, armed with bags full of delicious nuts for snacking on in the room.

Phi Phi Island Day Trip

Finally, we took a day trip to Phi Phi Island. The boat ride itself was an adventure, and once we arrived, the island’s beauty took our breath away. It was busy, as you’d expect, but not so busy that we couldn’t enjoy it. We took the usual tourist photos at Maya Bay. We spent the day swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing on pristine beaches. The waters were crystal clear, and the kids had a blast spotting colourful. Phi Phi Island was everything you’d imagine a tropical paradise to be, and it was the perfect way to end our exploration of Phuket’s stunning islands.
